Twenty Tories was my very first digital history project at George Mason. It was a requirement to complete Clio II and my digital history minor field. While the site could definitely use a bit of updating, I’m proud of how this novice project turned out–especially since it was built from a blank HTML/CSS sheet.
Twenty Tories examines a sampling of twenty loyalists who left their homes in Virginia to join Lord Cornwallis at the end of his Southern Campaign. Each one of these Tories saw action at the Siege of Yorktown. The site offers an in-depth biography of each loyalist, as well as an interactive map of where each loyalist lived in Virginia before 1781.
